What is DDOS and how we can prevent it?

Hello my darlings!  

In this thread i will show you what is ddos (the definition, his method of attacks, the simptoms,the prevention,the legality and such).

NOTE THAT:this thread it will not show you how to ddos or something like that (this thread it will show what is the ddos).

Now let's start.

1-Definition

DOS-The Dos (Denial of Service) or DDOS (Distributed denial of service) is a attack that make an service or a machine (for example a website,server aplication,gateways) unavailable and stoping to work legitimate to intended users.

2-The attacker and their action

The action of the attacker (ddoser) is very complex.

The DDOS (distributed denial of service) is called distributed because this attack is hosted on more computers than one.

That means if someone want to perform this attack the person need more computers.



This image it will understand the architecture of the DDOS.

As you can see in the image the main target for the attacker is the victim.

As for handler is an computer that work hands in hands with the attacker.

As for zombie is a bot (or we can say botnet) they are infected computers that they are controlled by the ddoser commands (so the ddoser can make what he want to do with the zombies).

But how does work an zombie (botnet)?

Well, the zombie recieve (or follow) the commands and instructions of the attacker (ddoser).

Also you didn't know that your computer can be also an zombie (botnet).

The ddoser just need to have acces to (G&C or CC) server and then the ddoser will recruit them.

When the ddoser has reached the target of the victim, the victim it will even don't know that has been attacked by the ddoser.

But what is the simptoms of this attack?

Well, if you want to see the siptoms let's start in the next part.

3-The simptoms

The simptoms of the ddos may vary because the ddos attack can attack in two ways: crash the server or flooding the server.

The simptoms of the ddos include:

1.Consuption of the disk space, data disk, and bandwitch.

2.Slow network performance (Too busy to acces an file or page).

3.Inabillity to acces any website page.

4.Too much lag in the server (game servers,etc.).

5.Unavailabiliy to acces an website.

4-The methods of attack

The DDOS (distributed denial of service) has more methods of attacks and different targets.

The DDOS can target for example routers,applians,IPs,aplicattion server,gateways,ISPs,firewalls and even data centers.

The kinds of methods of attacks are:

(S)SYN FLOOD

The SYN flood attack is an method of attack that the attacker send a succesion of SYN.


The SYN Flood in action.

Peer-to-Peer attacks

This method attack is an method that the attacker can attack by exploit in the bugs in the peer-to-peer.

PDos

The Pdos is stand for (Permanet denial of service) is a method attack that can damage a system so badly that requires a new hardware of it. Unless the dos, the pdos can exploit security and can go through the victim with remote administration.

5-The prevention

To prevent an ddoser is not possible (but is hard) and take more money for that.

There are things that can may be useful to prevent the ddos are:

Use good and strong firewalls.

Use correct firewalls rules.

DDOS mitigation.

Use mp_floodprotection (this is for CS2D).

Buy more bandwitch.

Calling your ISP (Internet service provider).

Using a special protection against DDOS (for example Prolexic).

Defend at network perimetrer.

6-Legality

Well, everyone knows that DDOS attack is ilegal and punishable.

In United States of America for example an ddoser can be punished with the prison with 10 years and with a fine.

Also the ddosers have bad consequences because they break the law.

I dont think so.
Better add a ddoser's ip to the iptablea.
Just drop his ip packages.
But i am not much good about this.
Anyway i think actually there no complete protection for ddos.
If there DC should bring it for cs2d in the new update.
But cs2d is not only the affected game.
But cs2d ddosing is easy so that the ddosers just do it do do do xD
however it will take more than a week for the ddosers to attack a online gaming server which has protection.
i am not talking about cs2d or any cs
cuz servers of cs are hosted by users itself.
but games like combat arms,cross fire etc have their own servers for each country which is hosted by their own company .
each country will have each company which provides protective hosting .
But still the crackers,hijackers etc discover new ways to attack the servers.

If the ddoser ddose the server of USA president he will be punished for more than 9=100 years CD.
If he ddos server of ordinary people his punishment will be nothing xD

The ddoser can do alot of damage that you think and these damage can cost more than millions of dolars.

Yes, depends what the ddoser do of course.

I don't think the punishment for ddos a server of ordinary people is nothing.

If a ordinary person server has been attacked by a ddoser and this person know that has been attacked, the person can contact the ISP (Internet Service Provider) or the law enforcement.

Well this is not about saints.

I have put this thread to show what is ddos and his functionality.

Yep an ddoser can do a lot of damage.

And is punishable (because is a break law).

And all that thing that i post on the thread is come from my mind.
